The Creative Supplement Stack: What I Take Every Morning and Why

Every morning, before I pick up a brush or open a notebook, I work through a supplement stack that has genuinely changed how I think and work. This is not about biohacking. It is about giving your creative brain the raw materials it needs.

Here is what I take, why I take it, and what the evidence says — drawing on research and the work of Dr Andrew Huberman, whose Huberman Lab podcast has become essential listening for anyone serious about optimising how they function.

Hydrogen Tablet (H2) in 400ml water

Molecular hydrogen is a selective antioxidant — it targets the most damaging free radicals without disrupting beneficial ones. Early research suggests benefits for cognitive function and recovery. I take one tab in 400ml water first thing, before food.

Creatine (5g in water)

Most people think creatine is for gym-goers. The more interesting story is what it does for the brain. Creatine supports ATP recycling in neurons — the energy currency of thought. Studies show improved short-term memory and reasoning, particularly under sleep deprivation. For a working artist and educator, this matters.

Lions Mane mushroom

Lions mane stimulates Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) — a protein involved in the growth and maintenance of neurons. The research is early but promising: improved focus, reduced brain fog, potential long-term neuroprotection. I take one capsule with water.

This is not medical advice. These are the choices I have made based on available evidence and personal experimentation. The most important thing is consistency — supplements that you take sometimes do very little. The ones you take every day without thinking about it are the ones that compound over time.
