An apology to Glyn Macey
I want to offer a sincere and personal apology to the wonderful Cornish artist Glyn Macey.
Recently I promoted a workshop that referred to painting “in the style of” Glyn’s work. It came from a place of genuine admiration — his acrylic and mixed-media techniques are a real inspiration, and members of our art club had been keen to better understand the approaches behind his beautiful paintings. In our sessions we always pointed people towards Glyn’s own studio, books, courses and workshops, because we’re such fans and wanted others to discover his work too.
But I got this wrong. However well-intentioned, it was a misjudged decision to celebrate Glyn’s name and work that way without contacting him first — a genuine oversight, and entirely my responsibility, not the Cornish Craft Barn’s. I never sought to offend, to trade on his name, or to dilute the quality and standing of his work in any way.
Glyn, I’m mortified to have caused you any annoyance or inconvenience, and I offer you my sincerest apologies. The workshop has been taken down.
If I can do one useful thing here, it’s to point people to the real thing — please learn from and support Glyn Macey directly:
With genuine respect and apology,
Damian Sémonin
